Sometimes, it can be hard to know what you want to do with your life and career. Some people feel completely lost. This is especially the case when you get to college and have to pick a major. Sure, it can feel like your major will determine the rest of your life, but if you really think about it and pick a major that is fun, strange and off-the-wall, your life may turn out to be much more exciting than you imagined. Indeed, there are some truly strange degrees out there. These degrees are odd in that they definitely don’t follow the status quo. Moreover, it’s likely that the people you meet in these classes won’t meet the status quo either. Here are five odd college degrees.

1. Arctic Engineering

If you like subzero temperatures and you like adventure, you may want to think about landing an arctic engineering degree. It doesn’t matter if you attend New England College or University of Alaska, you may be able to find some courses that will teach you everything you need to know about engineering in the arctic. After you graduate, you will have an extensive knowledge of how to work on machines and other complex gadgets in extremely low temperatures. With that, you may be able to secure a job in the Arctic.

2. Puppetry

Most people don’t think that they can’t go to school for puppetry, but they would be dead wrong. Indeed, puppetry is actually a much more utilitarian skill than people know. Of course, you could become a puppet master for a children’s theater, or you could become a puppet for a major motion picture. There are many jobs in different industries that offer surprisingly high salaries for puppetry.

3. Egyptology

Another odd, but exciting degree is in the realm of Egyptology. A lot of people think that Egypt has been tapped of all its antiquities and treasures, but the truth is that there is actually a lot left to discover. Right now, there are countless pharaoh graves that have not been found yet. With an Egyptology degree, you may be able to discover an ancient tomb or other treasures. More than anything, though, an Egyptology degree will offer you the ability to learn a wealth of knowledge about Ancient Egypt.

4. Floral Management

If you have a love of flowers, you may want to think about getting a floral management degree. This is an unusual degree, but you could not only secure a job as a florist, you may also want to start your own boutique floral business. Being able to start your own business will allow you the opportunity to be in control of your own destiny and you’ll be able to set your own hours. 

5. Adventure Studies

Last, but not least, you may want about adventure studies. With this degree, you certainly won’t be trapped in an office. Indeed, you may be able to travel around the world. You could work for resorts, a sportswear brand or you could also start your own adventure business. In the end, an adventure studies degree will allow you to live a life full of fun and adventures.
