Dealing With Family Feuds

When trouble in the family happens, when people start fighting, it is often complicated and hard to handle. Among siblings feuds can happen for countless reasons. Maybe one child is getting all the attention, or maybe it’s something else.

When siblings fight, it’s unhealthy. The bond between siblings must be preserved. Of course, they will fight from time to time, but this will usually be resolved quickly. If not, something needs to be done.

1. Apologize first, it’s a great thing

Of course, you don’t want to be wrong. It is a perfectly normal thing. But, sometimes you need to do things that you don’t want to do. Sometimes we need to make grown up decisions. Sometimes you have to see the bigger picture. Imagine this. What if the person you are fighting with suddenly dies? How would you feel then? Put yourself in that situation. Go now and apologize to that person, even if you are not guilty, be the better man.

2. Discuss the matter. Peacefully.

You’ve probably heard many times that there are always two sides to a story. Listen to each other. Understand each other. Try to grasp each others situation. Talk to each other and everything will be better soon.

3. Ask for a third opinion. Let somebody else into the discussion.

If you are constantly fighting with your sibling, maybe you should ask for the opinion of somebody else? Maybe they can help in the issues you two are having. It won’t do any harm, it can only help. But, note a few things.

The person who is coming into the discussion needs to be objective, they shouldn’t have an opinion already built up. They need to be neutral, always. That person who is coming into the discussion is neutral and needs to remain like that.

4. Talk it out and declare peace

Of course, it’s not possible to hug it out after each and every discussion. But you should at least strike peace with each other. Work your way up the ladder of trust, getting to know each other better. Talk to each other. Really talk. Do something together, and try to enjoy it. Start forming a new bond. You’re siblings in the end, you have the closest connection possible. Look at this peace offering as a chance to start anew.

5. You’re siblings after all

In the end, remember that you two share one of the closest connections in the world. No fight or feud should be something that can’t be beat with a little understanding and love. In the end, it all comes to down to you two. You’ll get over it. It may take time and patience, but your love will beat it in the end. You’ll be stronger when it’s all over.
