Innovative Kitchen Trends For 2015

These days it’s difficult to turn on the television without seeing a cookery show. And this popularity is reflected in our own lives – as a nation we are spending more time in the kitchen than ever before, with the average person spending more than 5 hours cooking per week.

As the ‘hub’ of family life, the kitchen is often viewed as the most important room in the house. As such, we all want to ensure that it is a pleasant and stylish space to spend our time.

Below are some of the key kitchen trends for 2015 to help ensure that your cooking is not the only thing that looks good.

Metallic touches

Metallic colours are a key trend for 2015. However, we are seeing a move away from chrome, silver and stainless steel. Instead, it is the warmer metallic shades such as gold, bronze and copper that will be growing in popularity in the months ahead. Add metallic elements to fixtures and fittings, such as door handles, shelving and even taps, for a touch of luxury.

Add interest with wallpaper

For several years, people have been using wallpaper to add colour and interest to rooms, and in 2015 we will see this trend move into the kitchen. It’s an extremely effective way of adding colour and visual impact to an otherwise plain kitchen. Wallpaper small areas or focal features in a pattern that matches or complements your fittings and accessories.

Incorporate texture with granite and quartz

2015 is seeing a move towards more textured and tactile materials. One way to incorporate this trend into your kitchen is through installing marble, granite or quartz worktops. In fact, quartz is quickly becoming the worktop material of choice. It’s durable, hygienic and a cheaper alternative to marble, whilst still giving a high quality finish. The variations in colour and pattern also mean that it’s relatively easy to match it to your preferred colour scheme.

Colour is back

While all-white, monochromatic and neutral colour kitchens continue to be popular, bold colours are making a comeback in 2015. To achieve this look, try painting your cabinets in a bold shade of your choice. For a more subtle effect, and less commitment, think about painting a feature wall or even adding brightly coloured accessories to the room. Balance bold or bright colours with neutral shades for a modern and stylish look.

The ‘smart’ kitchen

As our reliance on mobile technology continues to grow, we are seeing this trend move into the kitchen with the rise of ‘smart’ appliances. Available products to make your kitchen work smarter include cookers that you can monitor and control remotely and refrigerators that keep an inventory of items and can recommend recipes based on its contents.

And of course, don’t forget to incorporate charging points for your smart phone or tablet – make sure they are hidden so that they don’t detract from the decor.

There are of course other trends and it is worth doing some more exploring, but these are the key ones we think will make a big impact. By picking and choosing the elements that best suit you and your home you can create a stylish and modern kitchen that reflects your personality.
