When To Break It Off

Every relationship has its ups and downs, but when a relationship is a lot more down than up, you need to start thinking about where you stand. Even if you love someone very much, the relationship might not be working out. Making the leap from a committed relationship to being broken up can be rough, but here are the signs that it is time to let go.

You Are Not Talking Anymore

There is still hope for a relationship when everyone is talking and being honest. When that ends, the relationship should end. Your significant other needs to be just as investedin you as you are in them. If your relationship has fallen to silence, move on.

You Are Angry or Sad When You Think About Your Significant Other

Take a moment and think of your significant other right now. Think about who they are, what they do and what kind of impact they have on your life. Do you feel happy when you think about them? If you do not, there is a serious problem. When your significant other brings up thoughts of sadness or anger, it is time to move on.

You Don’t Like Who You Are

In many ways, we are made up of the people that we see and spend time with. If someone is your significant other, you may see them more than you see anyone else in the world. The issue becomes when your time with them turns you into someone you don’t like.

Are you becoming more introverted or more isolated when you are with them? Are you more fearful? Are you more prone to a bad temper? If any of these things are the case, you need to break it off. Your signficant other should bring out the best in you, not the worst!

You Want to Be Somewhere Else

When you are with your significant other, do you wish you were somewhere else? Whether you want to be out with friends or alone, you will find that this is a sign that things are going poorly.

Things might have been different when you first got together and when you had to make an effort to see each other, and things always require some changes if you move in together, but regardless of where you are in your relationship, if you are not happy to see your signficant other, things are going downhill.

You Feel Depressed

The movies tell us that depression is a dramatic thing where you cannot get out of bed. The truth of the matter is that depression is a lot more subtle than that. Do you feel like you are in a gray fog, where every day is much like the other? Do you feel little motivation to do anything or to make anything of your day? If this is the case, make sure that you consider what your options are and how much of that is associated with your significant other.

You Wouldn’t Choose This Person Now

When you look at your significant other, do you see someone you want to be with? Imagine what would happen if you met them today, without ever having known them in the past.

Would they still be someone who captures your heart? Would you still be attracted to them, and would you still be interested in them? If not, it is time to move on. In a good relationship, you can start off each day deliberately choosing the person you are with. If you cannot do that, there is something deeply wrong.

Take a moment to think about your relationship. Are you happy with it? Moving on is a tough decision, but sometimes, it is for the best.
