There are few cities as fun and as beautiful as San Diego. The weather is always amazing, there is no shortage of amusement parks, and well, basically, once you’re there, you’re never going to want to go back home. Of course, with so much to do, sometimes you just need someone to narrow down your best options. This is more than just a San Diego hotel guide; this is a guide on what to do and see in San Diego as a whole family. Here are some ideas to do on a San Diego family vacation.
- Spend a day at Balboa Park. One of the oldest and most beautiful places to visit in San Diego is Balboa Park. Much of the architecture was originally built by the Spanish settlers with rare and ornate sculpted embellishments that extend from top to bottom of the building facades. You can learn some fun science lessons at the Reuben H. Fleet science center, check out the Museum of Natural History, visit the San Diego Museum of Art, stroll through the botanical gardens and so much more.
- Catch some sun at La Jolla Shores. Of course, you can’t go to San Diego without spending a day at the beach. You can head to La Jolla shores once the morning clouds burn off and enjoy the afternoon catching some waves and reading under the sun. What’s great about La Jolla is that once the sun goes down, you can light up a bonfire in one of the fire pits and have a barbecue with the whole family right there on the beach.
- Go shopping at Horton Plaza. If you love to shop, then you’re definitely going to want to head downtown to Horton Plaza. This world-famous mall has some of the most insane architecture, and it’s enormous, so there’s no shortage of anything you might be looking for in a mall. If you’re looking for entertainment, catch a flick at the movie theater, or see a play on the bottom floor at the Lyceum Theater.
- See a baseball or football game. If you’re downtown and visiting during baseball season, then you’re going to have an amazing time at Petco Park. Whether you’re a Padres fan or not, you’re bound to have a great time. The weather is always great, the hotdogs are always delicious, and what’s a baseball game without a refreshingly cold beer? If you’re visiting during football season, then you’re definitely going to want to catch a Charger game over at Qualcomm Stadium.
- Visit Coronado. Last but not least, if you’re in San Diego, then you have to cross the Coronado bridge. If you have a fear of heights, you may not want to be the person driving, but if you want to get one of the most amazing views of the San Diego skyline, then you will definitely want to make this drive. Once you get to Coronado, take a tour of the Hotel Del Coronado, and don’t forget to ask about how it became haunted!
