If you want to have electricity in your home (we’re sure you do), you will be required to find an electric company. Whether you own a home in the country or rent an apartment in the city your energy bill is one of the most expensive bills (next to the rent or mortgage) that you will be required to take care of. During the super hot months (when you crank the aircon up) or the extremely cold months (when you have the heat continuously running) your energy bill will go sky high.
Usually people have the option to choose the energy supplier that is best for them, sometimes people want to use a green energy supplier, one that gets their power from windmills or waves usually people just want to save money. If saving money and switching energy supplier is an option you have, you may want to look into it.
If you think you are paying too much for your energy, then you probably are, it’s time for you to find a new provider. Below, I am going to give you some tips to help you find the best energy supplier in the UK.
Compare the Rates
Of course, it goes without saying, if you want to find the best, you have got to put the different companies under a microscope and compare them. If you take time to do your research on the different companies in your area, you shouldn’t have any issues with finding the best.
Here’s what you do …
1. Make a list of the different companies in your area
2. Next to the company, list their rates.
3. Check with the company to see if they offer to fix rates and tariffs preventing surprise bills.
4. Check to see how much they charge for late fees (in case something comes up and your bill is late).
5. Check to see if there are any hidden fees.
The company should have good customer service and provide a phone number for you to call them. They should never be hard to reach. A popular UK energy company is Scottish Power, The Scottish Power contact number is 0843 770 5075.
Make sure you do some additional research to find out if the company will be charging you for paying by credit card or any other type of fee you can think of.
Yes, this research is going to take some time but by finding the best company out there that fits your needs (and price), you will be able to save money – some people save £££’s per month by switching companies.
If all the above sounds like hard work you could just try a website like Uswitch.
It’s not common in the UK, unless sharing but I am informed that in the US you have to consider the fact that when you move into an apartment or a townhome, they have specific energy companies that you will be required to use. You might need to put up a good argument and have some valid points but they will usually let you switch companies.
For example, tell them exactly how much money you will be saving per month simply be switching to the new electric company (show them the research you took time to conduct).
