Learn All About Follicular Unit Extraction

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the latest addition to the age-old technique of hair transplantation. Differing from the more popular and traditional Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) technique only in the graft-extraction procedure, FUT is gaining a rapid global acceptance today.

The FUE procedure involves the extraction of individual hair follicles from the donor area with the help of tiny cylindrical punches ranging from 0.8mm to 1.2mm in diameter and sharp toothed forceps, followed by the implantation of these hair follicles over the recipient area, all under the influence of local anesthesia. More recently, punches with diameter as low as 0.6mm has been put to use for a better and accurate incision into the tissue. Depending on the type of hair, sharp punches or a combination of sharp and blunt punches may be used and the hair should be trimmed to a length of 1 to 2mm prior to the implementation of this procedure.

Although the benefits of FUE far outweigh any limitations, there are only a few that are attached to it.  Remember that, this method is a bit time consuming, which makes the Follicular Unit Extraction Cost comparatively more than its predecessors, but the end result after a tedious FUE session is worth all the time and money spent by you. This procedure is more suitable for the men as the women, as the patient is needed to cut down their hair to a very short length. Moreover, certain hair types, such as white or curly hair are also not suitable for this treatment.

FUE has many clear advantages over traditional hair transplantation methods, including the FUT method. First and foremost, this new technique eliminates the possibility of a permanent visible scar over the scalp, which permits the patient to sport a short haircut. This is a luxury that cannot be offered by FUT. Moreover, the healing time in this method of hair transplantation is reduced significantly. Consequently, the patient can return to normal activity almost immediately after undergoing the surgery. Besides this, if the patient has already underwent a FUT surgery and retained scars from it, the FUE method can be used to conceal these pre-existing scars quite effectively. Also, the absence of any suturing does away with frequent trips to the doctor for the removal of stitches which saves a lot of time as well as effort both on the part of the doctor as well as the patient.
